When dealing with anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem, many people turn to common coping strategies like deep breathing exercises, positive thinking, or daily pep talks. Coping strategies usually manage surface symptoms without addressing what is causing them underneath.

At Growth and Healing Wellness Center in Fort Lauderdale, owned by Margie Mader, LMFT, CHt., therapy focuses on getting directly to the heart of what hurts. Margie Mader’s approach emphasizes cutting through to the core quickly, healing wounds underneath, and getting results fast—a natural fit for Rapid Reduction Technique (RRT®).

The Root Cause: Why Painful Memories Get “Stuck”

Our brains are built to protect us from harm. When you experience a stressful, frightening, or emotionally painful event, your brain records that experience so it can watch for danger in the future. According to the American Psychological Association (APA, 2020), overwhelming or traumatic events can create strong emotional reactions that remain active long after the original event has passed.

Instead of becoming a peaceful memory about the past, the experience remains attached to an active emotional charge.

What is Rapid Reduction Technique (RRT®)?

Rapid Reduction Technique (RRT®) is a memory management skill that removes the emotional charge, triggers, and intensity of flashbacks or traumatic memories. It allows the brain to protectively revisit, process, reset, and make emotional closure — without requiring the person to relive the trauma.

Once completed, the memory is placed into long-term memory storage without its emotional charge, so if it surfaces again, it has no emotional effect.

1. RRT® for Anxiety: Quieting the Brain’s Alarm System

Anxiety is often your nervous system’s way of sounding an alarm based on an unhealed moment from the past. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH, 2023a) explains that anxiety disorders involve persistent worry, tension, and fear that can interfere with daily life.

Rapid Reduction Technique helps by neutralizing the emotional charge attached to the original event that taught your mind to stay on high alert. When the brain recognizes that the past event is truly over, physical stress reactions like a rapid heart rate, muscle tightness, and racing thoughts can subside. Rather than reacting to old alarms, you become able to respond calmly to current situations as they actually are today.

2. RRT® for Depression: Lightening the Weight of Unresolved Pain

Depression can feel like a heavy cloud that drains your energy, motivation, and hope. According to the NIMH (2023b), depression affects how you feel, think, and handle daily tasks, often bringing feelings of sadness, fatigue, and helplessness.

Rapid Reduction Technique helps the brain find clean emotional closure around past grief, defeat, or hurt without pulling you back into the pain. By updating how old memories are stored, the brain stops sending ongoing signals of defeat. Clearing away this heavy emotional weight frees up mental energy, creating room for renewed clarity and engagement with daily life.

3. RRT® for Low Self-Esteem: Releasing Painful Negative Beliefs

Low self-esteem is rarely something we are born with; it is learned over time. Experiences such as harsh criticism, bullying, emotional neglect, or past mistakes often lead people to form deep negative beliefs like “I am not good enough,” “I am broken,” or “I do not matter.”

Rapid Reduction Technique removes the emotional pain attached to past criticisms or failures. This helps you separate your identity from past events, seeing them as things that happened rather than definitions of who you are. When the emotional charge is cleared, self-critical thoughts lose their power, making space to build authentic, healthy confidence based on who you are today.
